I have the same problem! The camera runs hot and batteries swell. This is a design defect and all of my batteries are swollen.
Ditto. BFF Big Fat Fatty batteries.
I went swimming today, say Venice lagoon in Italy, there were dozens of these blue crabs.

It had nothing to do with the business plan. It had to do with space inside the camera.
Ok, business plan? I was being sarcastic, but there has always been an effort to control accessories in their silo of design. As for space? I have a Sony water resistant case from the early hero days that most definitely has a quarter twenty on the bottom. The first Hero without a frame/case could have come with quarter twenty easily. They just didn't want to.
@@Getawaymoments Wouldn't have made sense to put a 1/4-20 hole in the case. The camera angle would not be adjustable with that type of connector. That's why GoPro created their own attachment.
@Cameraflyer- Actually, by putting the quarter twenty on the case and make the accessories interface with it you could have immediately opened up a world of mounting options. It's cool, you see the world differently. The mounting system has always been problematic for me. I will post a video with Sony case as a compare contrast.
@@Getawaymoments There we'e always options available from 3rd party manufacturers. I purchased the folding fingers with 1/4-20 For my Hero 9. That's the great thing about GoPro. The plethora of accessories available for it.
@Cameraflyer- Now yes. Not so much in 2008/2009. Hence my point in the video, I made that quarter twenty adapter in a pinch to make it work with my other camera gear.
i have a slightly swollen battery and it still works. should i keep using it?
I would, Gopro might say no! I would keep a close eye on it. Don't leave it in camera. I have an old Hero Session4 with built in battery that used to get very hot, it's battery is probably swollen in place but still holds a charge. Best to keep an eye on any lithium battery while charging.
I agree that go pro needs to step up there s**t, however i'm not convinced its soley a heat thing as I only use my go pro when scuba diving so the heating part could only be from charging i'm thinking, but none the less still a huge pain in the a** having to buy new batteries already only 2 years old and used maybe 10 times. And yes there are the blue ones

Even my Go Pro 11s.. 3x Enduro batteries are swollen. What should i do?
If they are new, in warranty, send them back. If they are old, you're out of luck. Sorry.

Yes!! GoPro needs to fix these swollen battery issue!! I don't even leave them in the car. Batteries on GoPro 8 and 10. But i do leave them in the camera after a shoot. But for us to go the extra mile to stop this from happening is just crazy. But we have no choice right now. 😠 My next action camera will not be a GoPro anymore.
So sad. You want to support an early innovator, American Company. But they are making it hard.

I have 3 enduro batteries for my GoPro 11. All of them were swollen, I thought cause is charging but I'm afraid you're right. Unique cause is heat of camera. While recording motocycle ride at summer, always GoPro shuts down and camera is as heat as I can not touch.

Settings are in description box. If you have more questions, fire away! Basically the longest shutter speed and highest iso the camera can do. Always do a test shot for exposure, adjust and let it rip.

Not heard of an explosion or even fire. It seems like they are trying to fit too much capacity into too small a space and have over cranked it to the point that instability is common.

same here , my gopro 8 battery bloted, im lite user, i maintan them with care .how about make some group with same problem and ask gopro to replce these batteries .
Yeah, they won't. Ten years ago they might have, but I get the feeling it's all big business now and they have attorneys that specialize in saying "no". It's a brand killer.

I might have seen 1 before but idk if they're invasive too, I know the brown ones are from Cuba though.
The Green ones are native to South Eastern US. The browns are invasive.

I have one swollen GoPro 8 battery - swollen straight from purchasing it - wasn’t from overcharging. Straight from manufacturer.

Thanks so much for this (from Canada.) I've stayed there over a dozen times by now. Took all the kids and grandkids just before covid. Couldn't go for the next 3 years and when I went last winter they were closed for renovations. Updated bathrooms and finally a little microwave. Price has skyrocketed last time I checked for reopening. Probably will never go again. It sure is a fantastic place to be though. Great staff and restaurant.
Sadly it's the Tom Brady - Covid effect, the west coast of Florida secret is out. We love our Canadian visitors here! Well, accept when their wearing hockey uniforms. 😆
Why must they shrink so much
Shrinkage is a fact of life.
I just had this problem for the first time with the Hero 9. Had the gopro in the same hard case you show in the video, and it's not a situation of the gopro restarting after just having been shut off because I packed the gopro and had it last turned on hours past the possible battery life (minimum *possible* time it had last been turned on would be six hours). Anyway, I'm walking up a brook, gopro is in my backpack in that case and suddenly I hear it beep and turn off. I sit down, pull out the hot camera and have the swollen battery. This will be my last gopro. Besides recently finding out that they might not be such a great company to deal with concerning products under warranty (even though mine no longer is - that is still a concern), to be honest, I think the Gopro is a perfect example of consumers having their expectations so lowered and having been trained to accept "not ready for prime-time" products so much. It is way too glitchy and isn't worth the time and effort to set the camera up and just hope that it doesn't just shut off while videoing. Trying to pass it off as being a charging problem is also complete BS. All I should have to do is put my batteries in the charger and leave them until I am ready to take it out. Period. Anything else and the product is inadequate. This is also the product with tech companies - a trustworthy company today might be a smarmy crook the next.
I hear you. I used to be a superfan. The company used to be run by well meaning hippies then it went public, all the stake holders got paid (rich hippies) and then it became about $$$$ They had layoffs ect ect. Product development has stayed in a silo .... it sad. I'd rather buy an American product but they are making it hard. Peace.
Do they replace those free when you're a GoPro member? I have 3 Max batteries that swelled. Only blue though. Not the white ones.
My experience is with the Blue batteries. I have no idea how the whites are holding up. I'm not a gopro club member, it's always hit me as a revenue source for them with little benefit to users like me. Don't know the fine details about replacement. Gopros are solid state, if it's not a lemon, it will work perfectly (and batteries) well beyond the warranty and club rules. They have done the math, it's to their advantage.
my go pro battery too i bough 2 battery but its still the same even i only use it twice but the battery was already swollen after a month,, i think go pro is not that good quality,, i will try dji camera
new tip throw the camera away because it will not seal and water WILL get inside

Interesting. I have been shooting with Gopros since the beginning, never had a water intrusion. I always check seal with finger and take care to close door properly. The batteries swelling is a much bigger problem, in my opinion.
Had to get rid of 3 Hero9-12 batteries recently because of the swelling, would not mind GoPro changing the chemical composition or physical size, this is not acceptable and it has happened with Enduro/Non-Enduro batteries across 4 camera generations. Never had it happened with Insta X2, X3 or DJI Action 3 batteries.
awesome tip, here is another one guitar picks are plastic, some call then spanner tools may be a lil gentler on the palm, I used to smash box after box, for years I still do the bang trick when removing an oil plug with a rachet Lol never learn will we. thanks again for the share.

Additionally, when you are charging the batteries they heat up. When you have them quick charging they heat up more. Then immediately after fully charging you stuff the battery in the Go Pro and start filming 4k at 120 and it gets real hot real quick! It compounds the problem...
Interesting, ive never noticed hot batteries on the charger but I usually do that in a cool place.
@Getawaymoments I'm on the go charging wherever their's USB ports. Usually in the car. I notice when I plug my battery charger into a powerbank that has a quick. Charge port. They heat up. In my vehicle, the power outputs are also quick charge. In my case that being paired with a quick charge battery charger, it heats up a lot.
@@Getawaymoments I haven't used the stationery home desk charger tbh. I'll probably try that out when I get my next batch of batteries. My research says that the gray Go Pro batteries don't have this issue.

Nuh, I just found my never used brand new white battery swollen.
I gotta few of these in a bag of organic kale kale from baker's farm Georgia... That's why I'm here... Little pissed off too... Triple-washed the bag says... Apparently I got to inspect everything myself can't trust anything
Well, if you want organic you'll probably find more hitch hikers. I spent the morning picking cucumber worms off a few plants, better than soaking them in chemicals.
I lost about 8 of the blue batteries due to swelling. I now have one blue left and 4 of the newer white Enduro batteries. I'm hoping that the white ones hold up.
hope so brother ...gopro have put very low quality battery ...i have insta camera as well and their battery looks feels and works solid even after 3 years same as new.!
with my gopro 4 i never had an issue, now with my gopro 8 i purchase like 5 batteries since i got it. sadly to hear gopro didn´t fix this issue yet =/
